NEERS LIST SERVER INSTRUCTIONS

Notice 9/17/2008. NEERS has moved to IX Webhosting which has List Server capability. NEERS currently supports two List Servers. The instructions below are for the open List Server where only subscribers can post messages to the server. Message posts can include job announcement, questions - can anyone identify this creature, meeting announcements.

The second List Server is managed by the Board and only used to communicate business information to members. NEERS can reduce its carbon footprint if we communicate electronically. Once the board is satisfied that the List Server is functioning satisfactorily, the board will likely cease the use of snail mail for communication about upcoming meetings.

What is a List Server?

A list server is also know as a mailing list server. It actually is a special program running on an Internet server machine that processes requests to subscribe and unsubscribe to mailing lists for various groups of e-mail users. It also handles the distribution of e-mail to everyone on the mailing list. (linuxrefresher.com/servers/mail_glossary.htm)

The NEERS LIST SERVER provides several vital functions. It allows the NEERS Board to rapidly transmit vital information about the Society or timely notification of postings of announcement on the NEERS website regarding future meetings. Based upon the previous List Server, NEERS email traffic tends to be light with the majority of postings regarding job postings and conferences. On occasion, questions regarding estuarine matters are also posted.

How to subscribe.

In order for you to post or receive email from the server, you must first send email to subscribe.

Send email to:

neers-subscribe@neers.org

You may use the subject line if your email (service) requires it. Leave the body blank! You will receive an email asking if you really want to join the List Server - this merely confirms that you are who you claim to be. Just hit the reply button and you will receive a Welcome Note!

How to send a message to subscribers.

To send a message to the subscribers to the List Server, use the following email address (mouseover for address or click the link to activate your email):
