What is a List Server?

A list server is also know as a mailing list server. It actually is a special program running on an Internet server machine that processes requests to subscribe and unsubscribe to mailing lists for various groups of e-mail users. It also handles the distribution of e-mail to everyone on the mailing list. (linuxrefresher.com/servers/mail_glossary.htm)

The NEERS LIST SERVER provides several vital functions. It allows the NEERS Board to rapidly transmit vital information about the Society or timely notification of postings of announcement on the NEERS website regarding future meetings. Based upon the previous List Server, NEERS email traffic tends to be light with the majority of postings regarding job postings and conferences. On occasion, questions regarding estuarine matters are also posted.

How to subscribe.

In order for you to post or receive email from the server, you must first send email to subscribe.

Send email to:

Leave the subject line BLANK!!!

Add the following information in the body:

subscribe NEERS FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME

Note, there are spaces between the 3 'words'. If you omit YOUR_NAME, you will not successfully subscribe - you will receive an error message. YOUR_NAME as provided here is not used by the List Server - it will be used by the WebMaster to manage the mailing list. Many individuals employ cryptic email addresses and use pseudonyms. If you acquire a new email address - the old address should be delete - assuming you forgot to UNSUBSCRIBE you address before the switch occurred, the WebMaster can quickly scan the list using your name to delete the old address.

You will receive an email from the NEERS LIST SERVER confirming your subscribing and providing instructions regarding the Server.

How to send a message to subscribers.

To send a message to the subscribers to the List Server, use the following email address (mouseover for address or click the link to activate your email):
